Case Study 2
A Well Wise Hub Case Study
Patient profile: Male, 62 years old.
At Well Wise Hub, we believe that even in advanced illness, there is always room for comfort, dignity, and hope. Our role is not to replace hospital or hospice care. Our role is to walk alongside it, supporting the person, not just the condition.
This case shows how coordinated, compassionate support can improve daily life, even during very difficult stages of illness.
The Client Story
A 62-year-old gentleman came to us while living with advanced bowel cancer. His illness had continued to progress despite hospital treatment.
He was experiencing extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, significant weight loss, ongoing pain, poor sleep, anxiety, and emotional distress.
Over just three months, he had lost a large amount of weight and strength. Simple daily activities had become difficult. His main wish was not aggressive treatment. It was comfort, better rest, and the ability to function more independently.
Our Coordinated Approach
Well Wise Hub worked closely with his medical and palliative care teams to ensure all support was safe, aligned, and centred around his goals.
After a full wellbeing review, we created a personalised support plan focusing on comfort, strength, and quality of life.
1. Personalised Nutritional Care
We introduced a gentle, structured eating plan designed to encourage small, frequent meals, increase nourishing and energy-rich foods, support strength, maintain weight, and make eating easier and more enjoyable.
This approach aimed to stabilise weight and reduce further muscle loss.
2. Well Wise Hub Supplement Therapy
As part of our integrative model, we delivered personalised supplement therapy designed to support energy levels, immune balance, and overall wellbeing.
All supplementation was carefully assessed, coordinated with his healthcare team, tailored to his changing needs, and delivered safely alongside medical care.
Our goal was not aggressive intervention, but supportive care to improve comfort and resilience.
3. Pain and Symptom Support Techniques
In collaboration with his care team, we supported symptom relief through structured relaxation techniques, gentle body-based therapies, nervous system calming practices, and non-invasive therapeutic modalities.
These techniques helped reduce discomfort and improve sleep quality.
4. Gentle Movement and Strength Preservation
Even small movements matter. We introduced light guided physiotherapy, simple strength-preserving exercises, and energy-conservation strategies.
The aim was to maintain independence for as long as possible and improve daily functioning.
5. Emotional and Family Support
Advanced illness affects the whole family. We provided structured counselling support, anxiety reduction techniques, guided breathing practices, family-inclusive sessions, and signposting to hospice and community resources.
This created a calm and supportive environment during a challenging time.
Outcomes After 8 Weeks
The improvements, while modest, were deeply meaningful.
His appetite improved. His weight stabilised. His pain reduced enough to improve sleep. His medication needs decreased. His daily function improved. His quality of life scores also increased.
Most importantly, he reported feeling more comfortable, more supported, and more in control of his daily life.
Why This Matters
In advanced illness, success is not measured by cure. It is measured by comfort, dignity, and meaningful daily living.
This case demonstrates that structured integrative support can improve quality of life, reduce distress, preserve independence, complement NHS and hospice care safely, and support families alongside the patient.
A Model for Partnership
Well Wise Hub offers a professional, compassionate service that integrates seamlessly with NHS services, palliative and hospice teams, local councils, community health programmes, charities and support organisations.
Our approach is safe, person-centred, and designed to strengthen existing care pathways, not replace them.
Well Wise Hub
Enhancing comfort. Preserving dignity. Supporting quality of life at every stage.
